Our team of sports medicine specialists in Mississauga, ON can get to the cause of your upper back pain and offer treatments that will alleviate your pain.
The majority of time when there is back pain, it is in the lower part of the back, but on occasion, upper back pain can occur, and it can often be quite intense. There are six discs in the neck region and twelve in the middle back, and they can exhibit the same issues that occur in the lower back. At Heal Sports Medicine in Mississauga, ON, our team of sports medicine specialists can get to the cause of your upper back pain and offer treatments that will alleviate your pain.
Because there isn’t much motion in the upper back in comparison to the lower back, problems with the discs themselves are less common than muscular strains. This can happen as a result of poor muscle tone or overuse due to repetitive motions. Sports injuries and auto accidents are common causes of the muscular damage that causes the pain. In addition, if you have some lower back issues, you could experience upper back pain, as well, because your posture may be overcompensating for the lower back pain, and thus putting undue pressure on your upper back, resulting in pain there, too.
When you come to see us about upper back pain, we carefully assess what is going on and then proceed from there. We might recommend massage therapy, acupuncture, physiotherapy and/or get you started on an exercise program to stretch and strengthen the muscles in your back. Even though it’s less common, we will still check to be sure you do not have a disc herniation or degenerative disc disease. The best thing to do if you are experiencing upper back pain is to give us a call to schedule an initial appointment.
