CLINICAL NUTRITION
Advances in the field of clinical nutrition, as with virtually all other areas of medicine, have exploded in the last decade. We are learning more and more about the power of foods and how our eating patterns are tied to our health, longevity and vitality. For example, there are diets proven to not only prevent and treat, but also reverse heart disease, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes! Yet many people who want to make better dietary choices for themselves and their families are faced with confusing and conflicting nutritional advice from family, friends, the media, and even their own healthcare advisors. Clinical nutrition aims to lessen this confusion by reviewing the latest peer-reviewed research in the field and applying it to everyday clinical practice. “Functional Clinical Nutrition” further recognizes that we are all biochemically unique, each requiring an individualized approach to correct clinical imbalances and maintain health, wellness and vitality.

We are also learning more and more about the importance of a healthy digestive tract and its relationship to overall health. Our gastrointestinal tract is responsible for digesting and absorbing everything that we put in our mouths. Not only is it responsible for getting the nutrients into our bodies, but our GI tract also consists of loads of lymph tissue and trillions of bacteria, both of which make up approximately 80% of our immune system. The proper balance of this bacteria is crucial to our digestive tract and overall health. In addition, the GI tract is responsible for elimination of solid waste and toxins. When any of these functions isn’t optimal, your body can’t absorb nutrients and can’t remove toxins well, making it difficult to keep you healthy. An optimized GI tract is absolutely necessary to feel and perform at your best!

COMPREHENSIVE LAB TESTING
At Heal Sports Medicine, we know the importance of treating our patients as individuals. Our bodies are all unique, and in order to treat the root cause of disease and dysfunction, we need to understand how each individual’s body functions. Comprehensive functional lab testing can help determine baseline health and what metabolic, physiologic and biochemical imbalances may be contributing to our patients’ concerns, and then we can help provide a customized treatment plan solution to achieve optimal recovery.

For example, specialized lab tests can assess the following:

  • Hormone Imbalances
  • Thyroid & Adrenal Function
  • Micronutrient Deficiencies
  • Digestive Function
  • Food Sensitivities
  • SNPs (Individual Genetic Variations)
  • Blood Sugar Imbalances
  • Cholesterol & Cardiovascular Risk Status
  • Heavy Metal Exposure
  • Inflammation and Oxidation Markers

Comprehensive Hormone Testing – Hormones regulate all of our bodies’ functions and play a vital role in our health and wellbeing. Hormones can be assessed via blood or urine and may be an integral part of getting your body back on track!

Adrenal Stress Test – Stress is a part of daily life, but when chronic, it can begin to have a significant impact on our health and wellbeing. This test can help determine how your adrenals are functioning so that the best treatment plan can be implemented.

Micronutrient Profile – Is your body getting all the nutrition it needs to maintain health at the cellular level? Are you well-balanced? Measuring a comprehensive array of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants inside your cells can assist in designing a treatment plan to restore balance for the whole body.

Comprehensive Digestive Testing – Digestive function is critical for a healthy body, including immune system and cognitive function. With today’s physical, environmental and emotional stressors, most people have altered digestive function, leading to a broad array of symptoms, including irritable bowel syndrome, brain fog, joint pain, autoimmune diseases, etc. Stool testing can help identify what is going on inside the gut so the best treatment plan can be customized and implemented for you.

Gluten & Celiac Panel – Offers a clear answer to the body’s reaction to gluten, wheat, barley, rye, and spelt. Determines whether a person has Celiac Disease, a gluten sensitivity, and/or a gluten allergy.

Food Sensitivity Test – We have known for a long time that certain foods can have a profound effect on our health. At the extreme end, there are food allergies, which can bring on severe reactions and even death. But people can also have an intolerance to certain foods. While not life-threatening, these foods can bring on a wide range of unpleasant symptoms, such as respiratory or gastrointestinal disorders, migraines, headaches or dermatological problems such as eczema. The good news is that dietary management based on identifying the food intolerance is associated with significant and rapid improvement in symptoms for almost 80% of people. The Dynacare Food Intolerance Test can detect IgG antibodies to more than 200 different foods to help identify the foods that may be causing symptoms

SNP Genetic Testing – This test identifies common genetic variations known as Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) that are clinically relevant and nutritionally actionable. For example, MTHFR is an enzyme necessary for an important metabolic process called methylation. This process converts folate and folic acid into an active form the body can use. A genetic mutation in the MTHFR gene can inhibit its function and result in a wide array of symptoms. Identifying SNPs, therefore, allows us to bring personalized nutrition to a higher level of precision.

Cardiometabolic Panel – Cholesterol is a broad topic in health, especially in cardiovascular disease management. This panel takes an expanded view of not only cholesterol, but also different markers of health for your heart, including blood sugar and diabetic markers.

Heavy Metal Panel – In an increasingly polluted world, lead, mercury, arsenic, and many other metals can shut down the body’s ability to function optimally. These metals can affect all of your body’s systems, especially the nervous system. With symptoms of diseases such as neuropathy, Parkinson’s, or dementia, these tests can help determine if heavy metals are a burden to the body.

Oxidative Stress Test – This is a quantitative test to measure how many free radicals are damaging your DNA. Free radical damage increases the chances of cancer, cataracts, and wrinkles, all diseases of aging and toxic burden.

Glutathione Test – The most powerful antioxidant that your body produces. This test shows how much you are producing and if it is available to scavenge free radicals. A great combination to add to the Oxidative Stress Test.

Once tested, individualized therapies can be prescribed to achieve optimal health, so success is effortless in all the areas of life that matter the most to you! Dr. Kramarchuk is committed to getting your body back on track and performing well so you can live a powerful, healthy life. Please contact our clinic at 905-712-1949.
